Nyachuru Secondary School

Working to bring value to communities by generating a positive impacy:

ZimKids, a Canadian not-for-profit corporation that was spearheaded by Fran Fearnley, worked with Nyachuru Secondary School in Howard, Zimbabwe since 2006. With this help, the school has done an extraordinary job of utilizing its land to initiate agricultural projects that have not only sustained a lunch program for students and staff but also generated income for the school to cover its local costs. Staff, students and parents are extremely grateful. We've visited the school and comitted to helping them acquire a solar pump, piping and water storage tanks to irrigate crops and improve the general water supply during the long (and increasing) seasons of drought.

ZimKids also raised all the funds to build the Maori Primary School from scratch. As is the case in many rural schools in Zimbabwe, most parents of children at this school cannot afford to pay school fees. That means that there is no revenue stream to pay any “local” costs such as maintenance, security, sport programs, text books and extra-curricular activities. This school additionally recieved ongoing help from ZimKids, for which they were extremely grateful but unfortunately ZimKids will soon cease to exist.

Having visited Maori Primary School as well and seeing their needs, we have comitted to assisting them in starting a project similar to the one at Nyachuru Secondary School, which is self-sustaining. ZIM Sculprure Gallery is supporting these two educational projects in Zimbabwe which have proven viability and a strong Canadian connection.

Teen Challenge Canada helps individuals aged 18+ to overcome addictions by developing the whole person within the context of a residential facility. Clients learn character and leadership development skills, health and life skills, and have the opportunity to acquire some vocational training. This program also provides opportunities for clients to learn planning, decision- making skills and how to contribute to Teen Challenge and the community. We currently help Teen Challenge Canada to rescue lives from drug and alcohol addiction through donations to their program.

Part proceeds from sales of our sculptures also go to helping Teen Challenge Canada. Please contact us if you would like further information on how you can help.
