Kenneth Chidharara Picture1

Kenneth Chidharara was born in Nyanga in 1972. This beautiful mountainous region near the border has a strong sculpting tradition. He started sculpting at the age of 12. He comments: "It's natural to me. When I have an idea, it grows into sculpture.”

In 1992, after being mentored by master carver, Harry Chingono, he decided to sculpt full-time. “I am mostly inspired by clouds, rocks, shapes and the Zimbabwean landscape,” says Kenneth.

For many years he worked at a roadside studio in Juliasdale but in 2005 he moved to the Nyanga Art Centre, in Nyanga village.

A gentle, shy man Kenneth has been a mentor to many younger artists, including his younger brother Simon. He loves to work with local stones, appreciating the colour and grain of Nyanga serpentine.

Kenneth’s work has sold to collectors and galleries in Holland, Germany, South Africa, Canada, the US and UK. He has been represented in Canada since 2003.
