Misiati Kagore Picture1 r

Misiati Kagore was born in 1970 in the Guruve district, a region with a strong sculpting tradition. He started sculpting at the age of 14, while still in school, under the guidance of his father Jenjedza Kagore.

In 1988 Misiati was invited to join the Tengenenge Art Colony. He was an active member and respected member of the colony until 2005. Misiati now sculpts from his hilltop home, which has a breathtaking view over the rural landscape, travelling to Tengenenge a few times a month to meet with fellow artists.

Misiati takes full advantage of working from a region that is rich in stone suitable for carving. He goes directly to the mines to select springstone, opal and serpentine stones for his sculptures.

Misiati says that women are his main source of inspiration—both in his life and his art. His elegant, stylized nudes have been exhibited in Italy, the US, the UK, South Africa, Germany and Canada.

In 1992 Misiati won a Certificate of Merit at the National Art Exhibition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare. He has been represented in Canada since 2001.
